Laboratory Medical Assistant-Franklin

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
**This position is not open to  any outside services***


The Laboratory Medical Assistant is responsible for the collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing. This is executed by following proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, body fluids and hazardous chemicals, properly recording lab testing, quality control and assurance, assisting physicians with procedures and exams as requested, maintaining appropriate inventory levels of reagents and supplies.

• Demonstrates ability to perform clean venipunctures.
• Demonstrates ability to perform capillary collections.
• Follows proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, body fluids and hazardous chemicals.
• Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and practices
• Demonstrates knowledge of ongoing quality assurance activities in the office and documents breaches of quality as they occur.
• Assists physicians with procedures and exams as requested.
• Maintains appropriate inventory levels of reagents and supplies.
• Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify Director or Manager.
• Must be able to document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from laboratory’s established performance specifications.
• Be able to document in charts for “lab only” visits.
• Have complete understanding of LIS; which includes ordering test, rejecting test, reviewing result reports.• Other relevant duties based on training and clinic needs as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Excellent phlebotomy skills
•Outpatient facility or physician office experience
•Vital signs experience

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Medical  Assistant/phlebotomist with 2 years of clinical lab experience preferred
  • Hematology experience preferred
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program

Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements may include standing, walking, sitting, fingering or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, lifting or exerting force up to 50 pounds, reaching or stretching, crouching or stooping, speaking, hearing and seeing(with correction).
